The IMA gallery is a collaborative exhibition space conceived and developed by Dina Sherman. The gallery exists as a body extension of Dina Sherman and the space varies based on the collaborative decisions of participating artists and the gallery’s founder.  The gallery changes in size and body location as a result of the type of work that is to be displayed and then is constructed and affixed accordingly. For my show Ms. Sherman and I discussed the exigent need for the space to be recognized as a miniature gallery rather than a gallery of miniatures and it was therefore important that the work exhibited not be viewed as merely scaled down versions or copies of larger scale work.  The video work “30 Cakes” was a perfect solution for this unique situation in that video is generally not scale specific. For my exhibition it was determined that a chest hung gallery would provide the greatest access to the work and the 7” x 5” x 12” partial room would support the video and still images that were the body of the show. The exhibition traveled to various locations around Columbus Ohio as requested and participated in the Wexner Center for the Arts’ “Slideluck Potshow”.
